Shopping List

• 3’ of 8/4” x 10” pine

• 3 pieces of 1 3/8” dowelling 4’ long 2624-454

• 3 pine shelves 6’ by 12” 2546-541

• 3/8” rounding over router bit 1216-534

• 1 1/2” Forstner bit 1213-877

• rubber mallet 1030-075

• carpenter’s glue 2020-182

• desired finish

 

Here’s How


Braces

• Rip 10” pine into 3” widths, sand, and then round corners with 3/8” router bit.

• Using a 1 1/2” Forstner bit on a drill press, drill holes 90% of the way through 

at 5 1/2”, 19 1/2” and 33 1/2” from the top of each brace.

• Drill 1/8” holes for mounting screws at 3”, 18” and 32”.

• Finish with paint, stain, or urethane as desired.

• Locate the studs on your wall where the shelf is to go and fasten braces to the wall.
Dowel supports

• Cut dowels to 13 1/2” in length (9 pieces).

• Sand to taper end of dowels that will be inserted into drilled holes.

• Finish with paint, stain, or urethane as desired.

• Glue and hammer dowel into holes with a rubber mallet.

 

Shelves

• Cut pine shelving to desired length.

• Finish with paint, stain, or urethane as desired.

• Place shelves on dowel supports and screw to dowelling.
