Candlescape

The acrylic sides will help prevent the wind from blowing out the candle flames.

What You'll Need

Materials

• 1" x 2" clear pine (6') - cut with mitred corners to inside dimension lengths: 9" (2),

19 3/4" (2)

• 5/8" pine corner moulding (3') - cut to 8 1/2" (4)

• 1/4" good one side plywood - cut to 10 1/2" x 21 1/2" (outside dimension of frame)

• 24" x 48" (.118" thick) - cut to 8 5/8" x 10" (2), 19 5/8" x 10" (2)

• clear acrylic sheet 2536-170

• clear silicone caulk 2036-291

• wood glue 2020-850

• 2" finishing nails 2134-835

• masking tape 1670-107

• BeautiTone Signature Series Exterior Acrylic Flat Black paint 1835-848

Tools

• utility knife 1034-164

• brush kit

• saw and mitre box 1038-273 or table saw

• hammer 1030-665

• square 1070-062

• tape measure 1048-878

Here's how

1. Assemble the frame by gluing joints and nailing corners. Measure the outside dimension of the assembled frame and cut plywood to fit. Attach plywood with glue and nails. Sand and paint as desired, including the corner pieces. We used BeautiTone Signature Series Exterior Acrylic Flat Black paint.

2. Using a metal square, score the clear acrylic sheet deeply with a utility knife, along the edge of the metal square, and then break it over a straight edge of a table. Option: You can also feed slowly through a table saw with a fine-toothed blade. The pieces are 10" tall with sides 1/8" shorter than the inside dimension of the frame. The ends are 1/8" shorter than the inside of the frame plus twice the thickness of the acrylic. Dry fit to ensure the size is correct.

3. Tape the acrylic panels on the bottom edge to hold together. Apply a small bead of silicone caulking to the inside of the corner pieces and tape them in place, flush to the top. Leave tape in place until cured.

4. Place a variety of candle sizes in the tray. Add river stones to the base, between bottom of the candles.

Candle Chandelier

We recommend using battery-operated candles in the tray for safety and to avoid the wind blowing out the candle flames.

2. Dry fit the wood frame around the bottom acrylic panel and, if required, trim for a snug fit. Sand and finish the pieces as desired, and then glue, clamp and nail the corners.
